Teri Boyd, EdD, MNSc, RN, assistant professor at Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing, has been appointed to the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses’ (QSEN) Academia Task Force. Teri Boyd, EdD, MNSc, RN, assistant professor at Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing, has been appointed to the Quality and Safety Education for Nurses’ (QSEN) Academia Task Force. The task force is one of 11 QSEN established to provide an opportunity for nursing professionals with particular expertise to expand scholarly work in given areas of focus. Other task forces include those concentrating on practice, simulation, DNP leadership, academic clinical practice, and entrepreneurship and innovation.
The Academia Task Force brings together nurse educators from 11 nursing schools across the country who work together to research and design innovative teaching strategies with the goal of improving safety and quality of care for patients. Other members of the task force include representatives from Rutgers University, the University of Massachusetts, Purdue University, University of Texas at Tyler, Texas Christian University, Indiana State University, and University of Tennessee.
Funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the QSEN project, begun in 2005 and evolving in three phases through 2012, has the overall goal of addressing the challenge of preparing future nurses with the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to continuously improve the quality and safety of the health care systems in which they work.
