October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month.  Unfortunately, many women skipped their routine mammograms over the past couple of years due to the pandemic. Regular mammograms are vitally important by detecting cancer at an earlier, more treatable stage.

Scholarship Honors Homer G. Phillips Hospital Nurses

After joining Goldfarb School of School of Nursing at Barnes-Jewish College, Nancy Ridenour, PhD, APRN, FAAN, The Maxine Clark and Bob Fox President, began to search for ways to help the underserved and increase the number of Black nursing students. She found inspiration in “The Color of Medicine,” a documentary about the historic Homer G. Phillips Hospital that served the St. Louis Black community from 1937 until 1979. Named after its major benefactor, a St. Louis-based Black lawyer and civil rights advocate, Homer G. Phillips Hospital was the world’s largest Black hospital of its time.

Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing Partners with Harris-Stowe State University to Offer Students More Accessible, Affordable Nursing Education

Talented students interested in a nursing career now have a more streamlined pathway to a high-quality, affordable education thanks to a new partnership between a top nursing school and a highly rated, accessible, and diverse university in St. Louis. Barnes-Jewish College Goldfarb School of Nursing and Harris-Stowe State University (HSSU) announced they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) that will reserve four spots in the Goldfarb nursing program for Harris-Stowe students. These selected students also will receive scholarship assistance.

Going Virtual: A New Tradition to Celebrate Students

Spring Commencement is coming soon to a screen near you, making it the third online graduation ceremony we’ve produced since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the school is at the heart of many traditions for our students and alumni, virtual commencement ceremonies are a new addition to our long history of sending exceptional nurses into the world. Of course, commencement isn’t the only part of student life that’s moved online in the last year. From online nursing classes to virtual nursing interviews, the transition has been both challenging and an opportunity for new ideas.

PhD nursing science student: going the distance from a distance

In March of 2020, Yennuten Paarima was thrilled to learn of his acceptance into Washington University’s PhD in Nursing Science program. This joint program offered by Goldfarb School of Nursing and Washington University launched in fall 2020 and enrolled an initial cohort of three students.

Goldfarb Names Dominic Reeds M.D. as Associate Dean for Research

Dr. Reeds graduated with a B.A. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas at Austin, then completed medical school at Texas Tech University where was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He went on to the University of Rochester/Strong Memorial Hospital for residency and chief residency in Internal Medicine.
